NATURAL ENEMY: Daytime and the Sun. If they’re stuck directly under the Sun with no access to shadows, they can die very easily.
STRENGTHS:
They make fantastic spies, since they can feel everything in their shadows throughout the world if they focus, and can remain invisible indefinitely. They can locate and communicate with their siblings wherever they are, and are totally loyal to each (most of the time, all families have arguments), which makes it very difficult to harm one without another Child of Erebus coming to save them. Finally, it seems impossible for their species to become extinct, since one is always born in the place of another’s death.WEAKNESSES:
They can’t use any of their powers in the light. Not even ‘immortality’; they can be killed as easily as any other human if they’re trapped in light with no access to the shadows. They become very weak as well, making them trapped and useless. On a lesser scale, their eyes are very weak. In the light, they can see very little, and if you shine a light in their eyes directly, they can very easily go blind. If a Child of Erebus tries to disappear into their shadows, and you can get rid of that shadow before they can get away (i.e. turn a light on), it will force them back to Earth, and they will be dazed for quite a while. They find it very difficult to form alliances with anyone but their own siblings, no matter how trustworthy or useful the alliance might be. Also, none of their powers are offensive. They can run away, or hide as easily as they want, but they can’t actually hurt anyone with their abilities. Finally, because of their telepathic connection with each other, if one of their siblings is hurt, they all feel it.CAUSES OF DEATH:
Very very bright lights directly over them can literally vaporise them.ABILITIES:
Other than that, if a Child of Erebus is trapped in light without any way to access the shadows, they become mortal, and can be killed by any old weapon. If they are left without access to shadows for long enough, they will 'starve' and die.
Can move between shadows anywhere in the world (teleport)LOOKS:
Can live forever (immortal)
Can ‘become the shadows’ and sort of melt into the darkness (invisibility)
Can manipulate the shadows, and remove the light from any area at will (shadow manipulation)
Can see perfectly in the dark (night-vision)
Can, with deep concentration whilst melted into their shadows, feel whatever is happening in the darkness, regardless of where in the world it is happening (sixth sense)
Can locate their siblings anywhere in the world, and can communicate with them telepathically (restricted telepathy)
(In mythology, they could also visit the realms of the Gods, which no mortal could do)
They look like normal humans, except they always have black hair, and black irises. They never age, and their appearance doesn’t change from the moment they are created until the moment they die (e.g. if they have short hair, it doesn’t grow; if they cut it, it grows back to the same length; if they get an injury, it won’t scar etc). They always wear dark clothes, usually black, and usually quite formal, like a suit or a dress.MANIFESTATION:
Since they are born as an adult, their powers are fully accessible as soon as they are created. However they may not necessarily know how to use them until they have practised. It is likely that no Child of Erebus, past the original six, have been able to use their power to their full extent, since (according to the myth) none have had the training from the God himself.HISTORY:
The history of the Children of Erebus is shrouded in legend, and the only story of their origin is a tale in Greek mythology. The Greek God of Shadows and Darkness, Erebus, was one of the first children of Chaos (the nothingness before the world began), and he was responsible for bringing darkness to the world at night time. He was powerful, but also slightly mischievous, and loved messing with the humans on Earth. But as time went on, it became more and more difficult for the Gods to walk among the mortals down on Earth, so Erebus created someone to do it for him. Six beings, three male and three female, were born, the Children of Erebus, to work for their creator and play with the power of darkness to toy with the little humans. They were named after the first six letters of the Greek alphabet: the boys, Alpha, Beta and Gamma; and the girls, Delta, Epsilon and Zeta.OTHER:
It is true that there have only ever been six Children of Erebus at one time who all refer to each other as brother and sister, all named after the first six letters of the Greek alphabet (their name is passed down to each of their successors), all with the distinct powers of a God of Darkness, and no other version of their origin can be found. The Children themselves can offer no other explanation (or chose not to tell) so this myth has stayed.
Since their creation, there have only really been fleeting mentions of the Children. When the humans started to lose their belief in the Greek Gods, the Children became more and more hidden, less and less well known. They seemed to go into hiding, and very little is known about them apart from their early myths.
They are extremely rare (only six in the world). Very little is known of them, because by nature, Children of Erebus are incredibly secretive, and rarely mix with others. They are not registered, as very few people even know they exist.ALIAS: Alpha
