Ryan noticed discomfort flash in Aprils blue eyes, and he hoped it wasn't anything he had or had not done. He scolded himslef mentally; he was acting like a young boy on a first date! It was most likely nothing to do with him, he thought, perhaps she was hungry. As they strolled farther into the park, and the scent of living creatures became stronger, even he felt a mild urge to hunt, and he had eaten only yester day. He smiled, almost comfortingly at her.
"So how many years has it been for you? You can't really tell by looks with us." she asked, mild curiosity colored her tone. He thought back, and tried to figure out the amount of time elapsed, "Hmm, a good fifty-something" he replied, "I'm not exactly sure though, it's all a bit hazy. I actully don't remember much of the human Ryan. I only recall that i was a much different man."
Ryan thought back to his life before. He had been happy, that was the only clear thing, happy and in love. He also remembered the heartbreak that followed. He tried to prevent the pain from flashing in his saphire eyes, but had trouble with it. He decided it best to focus on something else.
He looked at April, trying to determine how long it had been for her,but as she had said, it was impossible to tell. "What about you?" he asked, suddenly curious. He suddenly wondered how big the age gap between them was. It wasn't a big deal to him, in his eyes they were both the same age: Immortal, but what if she thought of it differently. He furrowed his eyebrows with mild worry mingled with curiosity.

Sometimes these are so much deeper then they seem You'd rather cover up, I'd rather let them be I am in misery There ain't nobody who can comfort me, oh yeah
April watched intently, curious about the strain and pain that seemed the flash across his eyes. She gave him a concern look, a flicker of her heart reminded her she hadn't been concerned for someone since she had found... no, she was not reminding herself of that tonight.
She felt a flash of pain cross her own eyes when he asked her the same question. You brought it on yourself, oh clever one. a cold voice seemed to speak clearly in her head. He seemed just a little bit... anxious... to hear the answer. She gave a small shudder before replying, memories flashing before her mind like people on a speeding carousel ride, "Just about three or four years now. I try not to think about it." she finished quickly, her voice quiet and tight. "I couldn't say it was the most horrible way to be changed, but it wasn't the best." She remembered the feeling, it was gentile and it felt almost... normal for her. It wasn't the first time she had been bitten, just the first with... venom... with the change... with death. She couldn't take it and she shut her eyes tight as if she was watching a scary movie and the main character was about to die.
"May we talk about something else?" she asked, saying before opening her eyes again, calm once more. She felt the icy shell try to trickle back in but she pushed it away. It was easier to talk with emotions and without the constant urge to lie.
Why won't you answer me? The silence is slowly killing me, oh yeah And now I'm gonna get you back I'm gonna get you back

Ryan watched with concern as she replied. He no longer was anxious about her answer to his question, for he had seen the pain in her eyes. He knew he had asked the wrong question. She continued, confirming his concern, saying that she tried not to think about it, and then she shut her eyes tight. Ryan frowned, his brows furrowing, concern swimming in his eyes. "Oh, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked; That part is never too fun to think back on it seems."
As Ryan looked up at her, his heart actually hurt. It seemed that he was not the only one who had pain locked deep inside. He felt guilty for causing her to reflect on painful memories. He had had 57 years to numb his pain, and it still felt like a stab to the heart when he tried to think about it. April had barely four. He could only imagine...
Without thinking, Ryan put his arm comfortingly around her shoulders as she asked if they could change the topic, "Sure," He said in response, smiling gently, but not in a way to insult her or make her feel weak. He could tell that April was a very strong, independent woman. "What do you like to do for fun?" He continued. Ryan thought it would be nice for her to get out and do something enjoyable. If she was anything like him, fun had been the last thing on her mind.

April shook her head, a tiny smile on her lips, "It's okay, I mean, I asked you, it's only fair." it wasn't his fault and it was pointless for him to feel bad about something he couldn't help. "Besides... It was four years ago," she tried to convince herself as much as she tried to convince him.
She let him put his arm around her and they walked together. His presence felt comforting and welcome to her, though the contact made her chilled self scream and push harder to come out. A part of her even longed for it to come and sweep away the emotions that swirled through her as her mind raced.
Hmm... what did she like to do. She felt a little blush when she thought about it. Her head dipped to the side, giving a little giggle. "Well, after I became a Vampire I figured, you know, I might use my new powers so... I do enjoy some good archery and a little hand-to-hand combat practice. I've recently taken up fencing as well..." she explained. "How many girls can say that?" she joked.

Ryan smiled as she replied, giggling slightly. He raised an eyebrow at her reply: "Well, after I became a Vampire I figured, you know, I might use my new powers so... I do enjoy some good archery and a little hand-to-hand combat practice. I've recently taken up fencing as well... How many girls can say that?" Ryan smirked, he had expected ice skating, dancing, acting, but combat and fencing? He was liking april more and more, "Not nearly enough!" He replied to her joke, grinning broadly. He was glad that he had suceeded to brighten her day.
Still grinning, Ryan took a large step away from April and positioned himself in a fighting stance. "Bring it on," he said, good humor coloring his tone, 'I bet i could take you". Although he had a friendly air about him at the moment, Ryan did generally take his fighting rather seriously. He also practiced in his free time, and he hunted five times a week to remain strong. He hoped that April would be good competition. This should be fun.

April smiled, laughing with a little twinkle in her eye "Oh really. I'm sure you teachers have so much combat abilities.". She slipped her purse down her arm and zipped it closed and tossing it on the other side of the path so it wouldn't be trampled.
She looked at him with a little smirk and practically zipped away, her speed very un-humanlike. She skidded and dodged through the bushes noisily, creating a ruckus but spreading her scent and finally, when the leaves settled let her have her own spot hidden completely in the bushes. She watched him for a few moments, then darted out as fast as she had darted in, but this time she came up behind him jumped onto his back, wrapping her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist tightly. "Gotcha." she giggled.
This was easy for her, it was her job to know escape and ambush tactics, to be able to run like superman but as silent as a mouse. She laughed softly, rather enjoying herself, it was fun though.

Ryan watched as she set aside her purse, and he shed his jacket out of habit, just as he always did before a fight. He was not expecting what came next. His eyes followed her as she dissapeared into the bushes in a blur. Before Ryan knew it, april had him from behind, giggling. "Wow, you actresses are quite the combat artists." He said, actually rather impressed, but he wasn't about to give up so easily
Ryan grabbed her arms and flung her over his own head, but he caught her before she hit the ground hard and letting her gently down onto the grass. He was altering his tactics slightly; He didn't want to risk hurting her. He then rushed into the bushes, using the same trick that she had, for he found that using someones own tricks often proved most effective. Instead of hiding in the underbrush, Ryan then climbed into a large oak, only a blur to a human eye, and perched on a low branch, watching April through the leaves. He would wait for her to come in after him and then ambush her, and if she decided to wait it out, then he would go offensice and attack form above.

April squeaked when she was flipped over, giggling a little bit when she was set down softly. She smiled, and felt a slight breeze whip past her as he ran into the bushes. She took the moment to dust herself off, leaves and bits of twig covered her pants and top. She kicked off her shoes which were muddy. She then stood up, her red painted toe nails shining.
Their scents were intermingled all through the nearby greenery. She tried to focus, concentrating on sounds. She heard birds taking flights and a couple nocturnal animals. She thought she heard a rustle of a leaf in a tree but she tried to distinguish if it was an animal or not. She strained her ears until she thought she they might begin to ache. Badger, Skunk, Squirrel, Chipmunk... She then thought she might have heard a branch groaning, suggesting something more than a squirrel or a chipmunk was on it. She looked around unable to find the source of the branch. She looked up and whipped her head around, unable to locate him. She laughed, "Okay, okay. Where'd you go?".

Ryan watched as she brushed herself off and removed her muddy shoes, revealing her polished red nails. He smiled, pleased, as she looked around, unable to find him. He laughed quietly when she spoke, and he tensed his muscles to jump. "Roar!" he yelled as he sprung out of the tree and landed lightly behind April, and then put her in a gently headlock, all in one movement.
"Got you," He said, laughing. His grip was loose, not as if he was trying to restrain an enemy, but still not to make it easy to escape. Ryan looked over Aprils shoulder at her pale face and smiled, "You want me to let you go?" he asked, borderline good natured taunting. He doubted she would. Aside from the fact that he was confident that April was skilled enough to get free by herself, she seemed to enjoy a challenge.

April laughed trying to meekly pull herself out of headlock. She hadn't had so much fun in years and it brought a smile to her face. She scoffed when he asked if she wanted him to let her go, "I'm insulted that you think I can't get out on my own" she said playfully. She could get out anytime she wanted but she didn't want to hurt him and it was more fun playing weakling.
April stopped struggling, turning her head the little it could and pressing her cheek into his chest. She was completely still for a moment, deep in thought of the best way to get out of headlock. It wasn't something she practiced regularly because well, it wasn't something that came up often on the battle field. She felt a little stupid for not being prepared for something like this, if she was actually battling him she might have bit his bare arm... bare arm... wait a second.
She felt a huge stone drop her her stomach. There was no tattoo, he was unregistered, therefore her enemy. She held her breath and tore herself from the headlock, pushing with all her strength away from her and running to the other side of the path, picking up her purse. She paused for a moment, not facing him and holding her purse. If she was doing her job she'd grab the cuffs in her purse and arrest him right there. But she couldn't, he had made her day better and well, without her emotionless self she just couldn't bring herself to do it.

"I'm insulted that you think I can't get out on my own". Ryan laughed in response, and smiled as she stopped struggling and rested her head against his chest. Ryan looked down at her and considered, for a moment, kissing her pale blonde hair lightly.
Ryan was taken aback as she tore herself from him, "Woah!" he said, laughing, still not aware of the shift in mood, "Your really str- Hey, April, wait!" He said, his smile vanishing as he realized that she was no longer playing. She stood alone, away from him, purse over her shoulder, looking so forlorn. Ryan was at her side in an instant,"April, are you okay?" He asked, picking up his jacket from the grass and slinging it over his bare arm. Oh.
Ryan looked down, ashamed for the first time that he could remember since he turned, as he realized how stupid he had been. It was his tatoo, or lack of. He had come out of his shell, and he had gotten hurt. Bad. And even worse, April had gotten hurt. He took a step back, "April, I'm so sorry, I should have told you." Ryan wanted badly to hug her, to comfort her, but he couldn't bring himself to do it. She probably didn't want his comfort.

April felt tears start to fall softly down her cheek and she felt a hard lump in her throat. "I can't be here with you. I...I...I..." she had to force her mouth to work. They had lied to each other, this wasn't right, this was bad. She felt her breath become short and uneven and she had to hold back a burst of tears, "This can't going to end well, for either of us.". She slowly opened her purse and took out a flat, gold object.
It was thick and in the shape of a shield with a shining green V in the center. Under the V was an inscription of vigilant investigation registration and elimination squad, below it was the three words of Head Field Officer. Her badge. She held it in the palm of her hand, her eyes locked onto it before she turned and held it out to him. She couldn't say the words, so she'd just have to show it to him. "I just wanted a break from all this." her voice was quiet and strained, looking at badge, not him. She couldn't bare to look into his own face.
He'd probably run, they always did, didn't they? The vires weren't exactly liked in the supernatural community, especially in the unregistered community. She felt her hand shaking and her mind felt cloudy and dull.

Ryan listened, his heart breaking as she spoke. She was right: This wouldn't end well, and he hated that fact. He felt guilt run through him as he saw tears glistening like diamonds on her cheeks. suddenly she pulled a flat object out of her purse. No. His eyes widened as she held out her badge to him. He struggled to hold back tears.
She was a Vire! He had been so stupid, and now they were both going to pay for it. But she didn't move to arrest him. He looked apoligeticly at her, but he couldn't hide the fear the flashed behind his eyes. Every part of him screamed at him, telling him to run, but he didn't want to just leave her there. And then he said something that was very unlike him, "Will you get in trouble for this?" he asked. He couldn't believe himself, and the cold, selfish Ryan fought to break free, to run before she changed her mind, but he didn't want to be that person again. He took Aprils hand, "Im Sorry," he whispered, and before she could tear away, he was gone.
He crouched in the brush and watched her from the cover of the shadows. Ryan told himself that he has run away so that he wouldn't hurt her anymore, but he knew that it was also the fear. A strange mix of selfishness and selflessness had made him leave her there, alone, and a veil of tears clouded his vission. He hoped that April would be okay, and, as stupid of him as it was, Ryan hoped that this wasn't the last time he would see her.

April stood there, tears stinging her eyes silently. He asked if she'd get in trouble, "Probably. If they knew. They won't." she whispered. Her gaze locked on the ground. He took her hand and apologized, and a soft breeze caressed her cheek as he was gone. A cascade of tears fell from her eyes like a silent waterfall. April was a quiet crier, unable to wail or anything, just tears that wet her face.
She felt hollow, dead inside. She felt anger at herself and her stupidity rise up her throat, like bile. It reminded her of her hunger that had been bugging her before but now felt like a lioness, pushing out of her and making it almost unbearable.
April stood, her purse hanging limply in her fingers which were shaking too much to bear. She slipped in the golden badge, looking at it with such sad eyes she though she might die. She walked over to her shoes, her pale eyes clouded and dull and picked them up, holding then in her other hand. She didn't feel like wearing them and the pain on her feet was nothing compared to the pain in her still heart.
April looked around, taking in the fading moonlight for one last breath. His scent still hung in the air like perfume, only making more tears drip down her face, she then burst out at top speed down the path towards the city-she had to get home before she hurt anyone else.
