Ash walked in to the Red room and found that he was alone. All the better. It sucked to be stared at when he had his wings out, which he usually did. He unfolded his wings from their place folded neatly against his back. He sighed and stretched them out to their full length. He whacked a vase with a pretty fake plant off a shelf and heard it break. He brought them in closer, but left them out like the angels in pictures and on statues had them.
He picked up the broken vase and fake plant ad dropped it in a trash bin. Crap. He sighed and flopped down on a couch with his wings spread on either side of him. He put his hands behind his head and closed his eyes. He felt drowsy and started to slip in a doze. He was still awake enough to wake up fully if someone came in. He felt lonely inside surprisingly.

Katarina placed her hand on the handle of the door to the Rec room, taking a quick breath. She was usually not the one to be nervous, but she felt somewhat uneasy at the moment. Garbed in an ivory-pale frock that looked as if it should've been fit for an eight year old, she took the hem of the dress and fiddled with it in between her pointer finger and thumb of her free hand. By focusing on the texture of the fabric instead of herself, she managed to calm herself to the point where she felt that she could enter. When she released her grip from the skirt, she found herself delayed by no more, and twisted her wrist to pull open the door. What she found, however, surprised her in the most. Startled, she didn't want to bother the young man, but to no avail. She herself was flustered and could not bear to leave without an apology, even if it did wake the Siren. "Oh--uh--I'm so sorry to disturb you!" It felt kind of useless to say, since she probably could've avoided the whole situation if she just hadn't said anything. She didn't even know why she wanted to go into the recreation room, anyway. But when she saw that he had wings? Oh, that's when things got silly. The air caught in her throat, causing her to cough lightly. She knew that Tolero was for supernaturals, but she'd never expected to see wings on the first day. She thought she must've looked pretty ridiculous, choking on air, but that wasn't her primary thought at the moment. Wings. They weren't even like hers, nor was he a shapeshifter, but he looked to be kind of... angelic? More of a modern-day angel, though. You really can't pull off jeans as a classic angel. "Dah--oh."

Ash flicked open his eyes and smiled when he heard her gasp. Well, she must have caught sight of his wings. He said in a smooth voice "Interesting aren't they? There's no need to be sorry." he opened his eyes and smiled easily at her. He pulled in his wings a bit in case she wanted to sit down on the couch. He asked curiously "So, what brings you to this end of the school?"
He cast a quick glance up and down her body. She wasn't bad looking. In fact she could be called cute. She looked new here, maybe he should offer to show her around? He weighed weather or not to in his head. He could get closer to her sure, but didn't he feel like flirting? Was he a guy? His internal sarcasm amused him but it didn't show on his face. He decided to play the nice gentleman trick. He asked nicely "Are you new here? I haven't seen you around before. He cocked his head a bit like he was curious.

Katarina mentally cursed at herself when he'd spoken, realizing that she had, in fact, woken him. Well, she didn't actually curse of course--she was too good of a girl. She forced herself out of the turmoil in her mind to face him, still blushing scarlet from the embarrassment. "Er--not that they're weird or anything, but certainly interesting, yes." Finally composing herself, enabling her to stop fretting, she smoothed out the fabric on her dress, murmuring a quick "okay" to herself. She took the action of him pulling away his wings as an invitation to sit down, and not wanting to be ruder than she'd already had been, she did. Katarina sat somewhat awkwardly, with her hands twined together in her lap. Feeling uncomfortable under his gaze, she averted her eyes to the oh-so-interesting spot on the wall. "Why, yes, I am. I seem to have gotten a bit lost in this place--it's quite large." Her formal way of speaking annoyed some people, but only piqued the curiosity of others. Katarina hoped it to be the latter. Crossing her legs, she tried to do the polite thing and not gawk at his wings. What she did do, however, is sneak a few glances at his wings every once in a while.

Ash thought that her blush made her look cuter. He didn't mind the glances at his wings in the least bit. Being looked at made him feel good. She looked so uncomfortable that he felt a bit sorry for her. He said nicely "I'm pretty new here too. Your lucky that you fit in better here than i do." He flicked his wing out a bit to emphasize his point and give her a better look at them. A small smile on his lips the whole time. He stretched it out to its full six feet. The movement felt as natural as lifting your arm. He left it like that for a moment before pulling in his wing.
He asked with genuine curiosity "What kind of supernatural are you?" He didn't know what this girl could be. She might be a faerie or something. That was his guess but he doubted that it was right. He didn't like people to be all nervous and stiff around him. He looked around the rec room to find something to get her mind off of being uncomfortable. He saw a few video games but they were all gory boy stuff. He didn't see anything that a girl would like in his mind.

Katarina took his action of retracting his wings as an invitation to sit down, and as to not be ruder than she already was, she set herself on the couch. She crossed her legs and looked somewhat awkward sitting there, with her hands twined together in her lap. "I guess so. I wouldn't say I was lucky, exactly, but I do enjoy avoiding the stares." She did try her hardest to not look at his wings, for staring was not a polite thing to do, and she managed with just fiddling with her palms. A wingspan of a full six feet was a bit ridiculous to her, but what was so much more ridiculous was feathers. It just seemed so--so unnatural to her. But then again, supernaturals were, well, supernatural. In response to his question, she found no trouble in telling him. She never found it difficult to trust people, nor did she usually think very much before answering questions, however personal. "I'm one of the fae," she said with ease. Katarina seemed to be kind of proud to say that, as if she held some pride in the word. She kept a kind of wistful expression for a few moments, but pulled herself out of it to break the silence. "I shouldn't have to ask what you are, should I?" She nodded towards the obvious feathered limbs that protruded out of his back. "But, oh, how impolite of me. What I should've asked for is your name." She awaited an introduction from the boy, eyes wide open.

Ash didn't know why she wouldn't like to be stared at. Being stared at had people look at you and be jealous. He noticed how hard she was trying to not stare at hit wings and said smoothly "You don't really need to be nervous about insulting me by looking at my wings. I grew up with stares when ever someone saw them." He didn't want her to be uncomfortable so he pulled them in close to his back so they were mostly hidden from view.
He decided then to introduce himself "I'm Ash Redfern." He didn't really know much about faes so he asked 'I'm sorry if I seem rude but I know that Fae have wings but can you fly with them?" If she could fly then they could go for a little fly around Tolero if they got to know each other better. He considered himself the best flyer at the school because of his bird wings.

"It's not that I'm worried so much about as... well, pardon my language, you just look so weird to me. Not quite in a negative way, just different." Katarina's eyes trailed over the feather pattern, but she was able to finally be at peace once he'd folded away his wings. She didn't like to judge, but feathers just seemed awkward on a human. She'd never be able to picture herself in feathers, but probably only because her own wings were similar to a butterfly's. Instead of bird wings, she had delicate, iridiscent ones, with intricate lines marking each one of the pair. It's not like she'd ever show someone though, for she might ruin her dresses by cutting slits into the back, and they were much too fragile for her to keep out. "Why, yes, I can fly. Wings would be a bit silly to have if you couldn't fly with them. But I rarely do, though, it's much too easy to damage them." Katarina then realized that she'd forgotten to tell him her own name, and felt silly herself. "How impolite, it slipped my mind to introduce myself. I am Katarina Du Couteau, but Kat or Rina will do. I really don't mind either way." She felt a little more comfortable now in her own skin than she was before, her body relaxing somewhat. Now that she wasn't so tense, she could actually carry on a conversation without stuttering.

Ash smiled and said "Having wings without feathers is weird. Having his wings called weird amused him to no ends. If he were alone he would have burst out laughing. He thought of harpies and how they had wings but couldn't fly. having useless wings would make him go crazy. Being stuck on the ground forever would make him absolutely insane.
He was astonished by her. She had a beautiful gift and she didn't use it. Why have wings if you don't use them? The aspect was strange and crazy to Ash. He risked losing his feathers every time he flew. A freak wind could come up and blow him in to a building and break his fragile wing bones. He smiled and said in a very polite voice "It is very nice to meet you Katrina." He looked out a window and saw that the afternoon sun was up and there didn't seem to be much of a breeze. He commented absently "It's a very nice day to go out and fly. No wind to make it difficult to maneuver." He felt a desire to go out and soar through the air and feel the amazing feeling of flight.

Katarina thought about that for a moment, her head cocked slightly to the side as she stared at nothing. "To each their own, I suppose." She'd never liked birds at any point in her life--maybe it was the fact that she was kind of a butterfly, and that it was possible for birds to eat butterflies. But she wasn't a butterfly, she was a human (to an extent), and so she shouldn't of thought that she would be eaten. There was really no excuse as to why she found feathered wings silly. "Likewise." She looked towards the same window after he'd mentioned the weather. "For you, perhaps. I typically only bring out my wings when either the situation demands it or I'm in the comfort of my own privacy." She wasn't much of an outdoors person anyway--she liked gardening, of course, but she typically was in a greenhouse. Kat had flown a few times, but each flight didn't last longer than a few seconds and she only went a few feet in the air.

Ash asked curiously "You have a beautiful gift yet you don't let others see it and wish to be like you?" He showed off his wings whenever he could. Flying was almost as magical to him as Christmas was for children. Ash wanted to see Katrina fly. She was the first person who could fly he had met. She didn't even sound like she liked it! The thought was crazy.
"What do you like to do in your spare time?" he asked. Getting to know Kat was making him more and more confused. He decided that he liked the feeling. He listed what he liked to do if she answered then asked again in turn. He didn't want to have to pause and think before answering.

Katarina shrugged, which was no more than a slight movement of her shoulders. "It's not that I don't let them out every once in a while. I just believe that they're not quite a gift, but more of a package deal that comes with being a fae. I like them, sure, but I wouldn't mind it if I didn't have them." She twirled a strand of her hair around on her finger, looking thoughtful. It wasn't every day that she had conversations like this one. She actually smiled when he'd asked her what she liked to do. Even thinking about her precious plants made her beam in delight. "I love gardening. I wouldn't dare abandon my dear flowers." Her favorite one was her narcissus flower--her daffodil. Now that she'd thought about it, Ash kind of reminded her of her flower. In more of the narcissus way--but it's not like she would treat him differently if she saw him as a jerk, of course not. Everyone gets equal kindness from Kat, and besides, he wasn't that narcissistic.

Ash shrugged and dropped the subject of the wings. She didn't appreciate her gift. Not his problem. He didn't really like gardening, he killed everything he touched that was a plant. He asked "What kind of flower or plant is your favorite?" He didn't really give a damn about plants. He did care about girls so he would put on his acting face and act interested. He had a very good interested face.
The nice day was calling to him. He wanted to jump outside and soar through the clouds. Being inside for long periods of time made him feel claustrophobic. The feeling was starting to come and it was making him a bit antsy. He didn't move much except shift a bit more and look around at a faster pace. He reached up an rubbed his neck like he did when he was nervous without even thinking about it.

Katarina beamed even wider when he looked to be genuinely interested in her hobby. "My narcissus flower, named Daffodil." She giggled slightly when she thought of how silly she must've sounded, having a plant with a name. "Maybe you should accompany me to the greenhouse sometime, if you'd like." She couldn't guess what his response would be, but most people just said 'Um... maybe'. Those who didn't just said flat out 'no'. But she still kept her look of delight on her face, for at least she had someone to converse with about her plants.
She picked up on his slight jerky movements, cocking her head to the other side. "What seems to be the matter? Boredom?" Kat often moved about like that when she was nervous, but Ash didn't seem like the person to even get anxious.

Oh crap. She wanted him to go to a greenhouse with her? No, jus no. He smiled and said ""Ok, when would you like us to go?" Inside he groaned. He kept nice look on his face though. The nice side of him thought that being around plans with a cue girl could be nice. Kat wasn't bad person, she was quite nice actually.
hen she mentioned his increasing restlessness he smiled and said "No no boredom, just restlessness. I haven't been in the air for a while." He made a great effort to push the desire to snap open his wings and take off through the air. He wanted to get to know Kat almost as much as he wanted to fly. Almost, if it came down to which he wanted more flying would win. FLying always won.
