Alex Winters Changer I For One Can See No Blood From The Hearts And The Wrists You Allegedly Slit... . . . All seemed to be still in the forest tonight. The only thing that stirred were the leaves when distirbed by Alex's footfalls. The changer was taking a nighttime strole among the shadows. She almost felt she was one of them as she waled qiuetly among the trees, her dark hair, black t-shirt, and jeans almost blending with the night. Only her face stood out, pale in the moonlight. She practiced her gift as she walked, modifiying little things about her self, nothing to conspicious. That was why she loved night time in the forest, no prying eyes.
She willed her skin to be dark, then changed it back, made her hair pale blonde, then back to dark- auburn, changed her clothes to a gown, then back. She smiled crookedly. She was improving after all.
Alex was about to try something more complicated, like making her self look like the headmistress, when an uncomfortable feeling crept over her; The feeling of not being alone. Alex drew to a stop. She strained her ears for any out of place sounds, any echoing footsteps or crunching leafs. She peered into the shadows, but her eyes were useless in this light. She continued walking, but this time not changing. She instead kept to the shadows inconspiciously, her eyes peeled. . . . People always seemed to take that beautiful feeling of the Earth under their feet for granted; it wasn’t until it was taken away from you that you realised how much of a luxury it really was, and Alpha was experiencing that first hand. Now don’t get me wrong, he loved his abilities, and floating through the shadows, moving between countries in the blink of an eye, was something he wouldn’t trade for the world. But that didn’t mean he didn’t enjoy the physical side of the world, and didn’t long to run his fingers across the bark of trees and feel the grass flatten beneath his feet. And on top of that, he’d never been very good with rules, so his brothers telling him to stay away from people, to keep to the shadows and lay low for a while, had just made him more and more desperate to walk with the mortals once more.
So when his feet finally touched down on the rough floor of the forest, a grin spread across his face. It was a dangerous move of course, and he didn’t want to compromise the security of his siblings, but the temptation to walk again was just too much to fight. Alpha’s physical form materialised, shimmering into existence like a mirage in a desert, tendrils of smoke-like shadows swirling around his arms and legs. It was quite a mysterious thing to watch, but his species had always loved dramatic entrances: cutting out the lights maybe, and illuminating only themselves - it could make a powerful first impression. Of course, the Children of Erebus did very little in the way of entrances now. He missed the good old days, when they had moved through time toying with the little humans and using their powers for mischief: it was much more fun than hiding. Every now and then little snippets of memories from his previous incarnations filtered through, flashes of young mortals reacting in so many different ways to the same old trick of the disembodied voice floating beside them, oblivious to the Child of Erebus watching their every move.
It was very different these days. This war meant they were in danger, and his brothers and sisters were cautious about what could happen if they made themselves public. Nevertheless, secrecy was never Alpha’s strong point, and if he happened to stumble across someone alone and lost, he could easily forget what he’d been told not to do…
A sharp warning shot through his head from his sister, Delta, but he ignored it, pushing her voice to the back of his mind as something else caught his attention. Something stirring in his shadows; a shape, a movement, a person. As quickly as he’d appeared, Alpha seemed to melt into the darkness, flitting over to the movement he’d sensed. His shadows circled round the person he’d felt, taking in their appearance… their constantly changing appearance. Strange, must be some kind of supernatural, there were such things as Changers weren’t there? Ah, but she’d stopped walking. He wasn’t being particularly subtle, she’d probably noticed his presence, hence her now cautious movements and the fact she’d moved deeper into the shadows than before. Unlike most situations, that really wouldn’t help her; if anything, it put her in a worse position. Alpha could feel everything that happened in his shadows, especially the shadows nearest to him, so her appearance, her movement, her attitude, even her emotions were much more obvious to him now.
With an opportunity like this thrust in front of him, Alpha couldn’t help but take it. Another caution pushed itself to the front of his mind, this time provided by his older brother, Gamma, but Alpha’s mind was already made up. Keeping the voices of his siblings at the back of his mind, Alpha let his form slowly and subtly appear, his feet not quite touching the floor so his steps wouldn’t make a noise. He was lined up next to this girl, this Changer, just out of her immediate line of vision so she hopefully wouldn’t notice him straight away. A little smirk twitched the corner of his lips up as he let himself drop to the floor, his physical form fully visible now, his voice cutting the silence as soon as he took his first actual step.

Alex Winters Changer I For One Can See No Blood From The Hearts And The Wrists You Allegedly Slit... . . . Alex felt the prescence in the air, in the shadows, all around her. She tried to shake the notion, justput it off as paranoia, but it was much to real for that. She tried not to show the fear that was now blossoming inside of her, for showing weakness was never a good idea. She considered turning into someone more threatening, but decided reluctently against it. Sure, it would make her feel less vulnerable, but becoming someone bigger would sap her energy quickly.
Alex was peering far to her left, towards the lighted path, when she heard a voice beside her. Her heart leaped into her throat, and she fought the urge to scream, to panic, but she was naturally good at controlling her apearance. Her expression showed nothing of her fear but a momentary flash of panic in her grey eyes as she turned to the figure beside her, taking a step back away from him. She didn't want to give him the satisfaction of knowing he nearly scared the life out of her.
"Perhaps," She said, willing her voice to sound strong. She analylized the man suspiciously, racking her brain for what he could possibly be. Alex was tense, and ready to defend herself, but she didn't run. She caught a mischievous glimmer in his eye, and it appealed to her sense of trouble, "And what do you think your doing, scaring people in the middle of the forest?!" she inquired, her heart still hammering against her rib cage.
Alex was well aware that she was overestimating herself. She was but a teenage girl, yet she was standing her ground against an adult man in the middle of no where. For some reason she wasn't scared anymore. He didn't seem threatening to her, more of a big prankster. Besides, she knew self defense, and she could always turn into Chuck Norris or something. Alex shook her head, there she goes again with the overestimating. As she thought about all this, Alex never took her eyes off of the mysterious man who had appeared so suddenly, as if he had been born out of the shadows themselves. . . . A slightly disappointed expression flickered across Alpha’s features as the girl turned towards him with no sign of shock or fear visible in her face. There may have been a tiny glimmer in her eyes, but it wasn’t the dramatic reaction he’d been hoping for. Even her voice was strong, lacking the squeak of panic he usually loved hearing in people’s voices when he materialised in front them. She was ruining his fun already and they’d barely started a conversation.
There was a tiny hint of urgency in her question, so maybe her confidence had been knocked a little. That was enough to keep Alpha trying, instead of just leaving and finding someone else to play with. “Well,” he began, turning on his heels so he was walking backwards for a moment, before slipping in front of her and halting their progress completely. “I think you summed it up quite well yourself. What do I think I’m doing? I think I’m scaring people in the middle of the forest. See, you described it perfectly.” He flashed her an enthusiastic smirk, sticking his hands into the pockets of his trousers as he did so. She did look a little tense, so he’d decided to highlight how relaxed and calm he was feeling in comparison.
“Now my dear, the question is, what are you doing out here, hmm? It’s dangerous to be out in the dark these days; you never know what’s lurking in the shadows. A little darling like you could easily be hurt out here.” Alpha’s words were picked very precisely, and a little snicker slipped passed his lips as he spoke. Would she pick up on them? The references to the darkness, the fact he said ‘be hurt’ rather than ‘get hurt’, almost as a warning? The Children weren’t particularly dangerous when it came to fighting with brute strength, but with wit and words they could cause some serious damage. Even in semi-friendly situations like this one, Alpha leapt at the chance to show off a bit of literary prowess.
He raised an eyebrow at her, almost trying to work out what she was thinking, watching the metaphoric cogs turning in her mind. It seemed highly unlikely that she’d make anything of his little jokes, least of all that she’d discover what he was. Few people still believed the Children of Erebus existed, and those that did thought they were all in hiding: they’d never expect to see a Child so out in the open like Alpha was. But maybe that was the best way to avoid detection, by hiding in plain sight where no-one would expect him to be. Anyway, there was only one way to find out how successful that tactic was, and that was by testing it. If the Changer before him figured out who he was, then it didn’t work. If not, well, it would give him an excuse to mingle more often, and that was some seriously good news.Tag?!: Alex ! Words?!: 495 Lyrics?!: Eyelash Wishes ~ The All American Rejects Notes?!: See?
