HISTORY: Poliahu started her journey in Haleiwa, Oahu - A natural birth (at home). Her element was incredibly small but showed itself (but did not reappear until she was five) when she was only a few hours old and her Tutu(wahine) (Grandmother), who saw this happen, named her after the Kupua; Poliahu (A woman of "myth"- legend who Controls Snow and Ice). Her twin siblings were born three years after she was, though only her brother had the Elemental ability.
From the time she was conscience of what she was doing (5), she was able to control her powers well and with the help of her father and her father's parents, her ability to keep her powers in check was well done. Her brother also was taught to keep his power under control but he was not as keen as she was.
All her siblings were raised around surfing, their mother was a surf/under photographer who liked to occasionally surfed and her father had been a professional surfer (before it was found out that he was a water elemental and was unable to compete). Her father taught them the water and it's ways, without any use of his abilities to help him. He believed that if one was to surf, one must treat others with respect and not cheating ways to win. They were all loved children, from both of their parents.
Their mother was a loving woman to her children and who also taught Poliahu (who had shown an interest in photography) her ways of 'shooting and allowed Poliahu to come with her to watch. This is where her love of photography started, in the ocean and with her mother. However, they were unable to escape the sadness that would befall them.
When Poliahu was 19, her mother, who had been 'shooting at a surf competition down North Shore had been swept away by a wave and died. Nobody in her family had been at the competition that fateful day or perhaps she could have been saved. Her family was devastated by the loss, though knew in their hearts that she had lived a loving and full life doing what she loved. This was also the period in her life where she had less control over her powers due to her emotional instability.
After she gained her bachelor's degree in photography, she moved to Oregon. She wanted to experience a slower lifestyle before moving around and pushing for her job.
REACTION/FEELINGS TOWARDS SUPERNATURALS: She is neutral, though with other supernaturals that she likes, she is more trusting of them. She does believe that who they are does not mean anything but that personality and actions shine more than anything else.
MENTIONABLE BELONGINGS:
- Canon 5D Mark ii (And her lenses)
- Underwater Casing
- Her Mother's Surfboard
ROLEPLAY SAMPLE: She held her surfboard under her arm, her feet in the sand and her eyes staring out to the cold and depressing looking ocean. Although this vast body of water was considered the Pacific Ocean, it was a sorrowful excuse compared to the loving, warm, and clean ocean that surrounded the islands of her home. A sigh left her body as she walked to the shore, her wetsuit clinging to her body and every move as she put her board down into the water. She pushed her board in the water a bit more before getting on top of it, paddling out to join the other surfers in this hopeless game in the desolate ocean that reminded her of her powers.
As she neared the two, she waved. She took a deep breath, letting the cold air fill her lungs with oxygen before yelling to the two other surfers, "How're the waves?!". The yelling was necessary, although the wind was no tornado, it would take her voice and let it drift away, had she not yelled and the sound of the waves lapping each other up, and their surfboards bouncing up and down on the waves did nothing to help. The two yelled back, their response consisting of "Okay", "Terrible", and "Have fun". She giggled to herself, though there was nothing funny about anything before she turned her attention to the waves.
She let a calmness spread through her body as she watched the waves and felt them, allowing herself to think of herself as the ocean. A wave was coming, a good one for these parts, and she positioned herself, allowing the wave to take her and for her to beat it, as she rode the wave.
