Where did I go wrong, I lost a friendღღSomewhere along in the bitternessღ
Scarlet walked through the forest, her pace slow and relaxing. It was just about nightfall and the sun was dimming leaving the entire world in a orange glow The forest had just a light layer of snow that seemed to melt revealing a leave-dappled trail as Scarlet walked down the trail. The air was chilly, but a little warmer than usual for this weather and the smell of pine filled the air. It was so pure, so relaxing and it let scarlet melt in mother nature's warm arms.
Being a faerie, no matter how much time she spent indoors constantly at her station-she had a special connection with nature that tied her to the earth. She closed her eyes and just walked down the trail, drinking in the sounds and feelings of nature. The snow seemed to melt around her, the earth recognizing her and welcoming her. She found a low tree with a large branch low to the ground. She leaned against it and crossed her arms.
She wore a soft brown overcoat and a pastel pink cashmere sweater and black pants. Her brown leather boots were warm and cozy with secret fuzzy slipper socks underneath. For jewelry she had on simple warm pink butterfly earrings with a matching necklace, after all they seemed appropriate for her species. Her hair was faintly curly but more straight and loose.
The more she fell into relaxation and getting rooted to the earth the warmer it got around her. She took a deep breath, letting the smells fill her lungs and as she exhaled beautiful butterflies began to circle around the area as well as songbirds flying above her singing a gorgeous song. She began to feel a little warm so she took off her coat, pushed herself onto the low branch and sat down, kicking off her boots. Her sweater had two identical slits in the back, for her wings. She let her wings extend to reveal beautiful brown and white spot wings with a fine sparkly powder covering them. They were rounded like a butterflies and large. She let them slowly move, getting more of a feel for them.
She looked up into the bare tree tops and got a rather childish, but fun idea. Usually Scarlet was beneath playful attitudes but she never got any experience flying. She let them flutter, pushing her off the ground and leaving her coat and , her sock feet dangling from the ground. She laughed, her loose hair whipping her in the face just a little as she rose higher and faster. She stopped on a branch but her weight moved it and she jumped off, letting the tree swish. She gave a little giggle and swung around it, like she was Dancing in the rain. The wind through her hair was exhilarating and she jumped, falling down several feet then balancing out once more, a huge smile on her face, flying in mid-air before going lower in the treetops, dodging and running over branches.
She was having so much fun she wasn't paying attention to exactly where she was going and had absolutely no idea she was actually starting to near the rebel bunkers. Even if she was paying attention she didn't know where the bunkers anyway, she didn't even know the rebellion lived in the bunkers. She was apart of the vires.
She began to be tired and she laughed and slowed down to a jog and eventually collapsing beside a tree, wiping a small amount of sweat off her face and a large smile, closing her eyes once more and tucking her knees towards her chest and hugged them, her once white fuzzt socks splattered with mud, leaf bits and pieces of bark.

Ian sat alone on a large boulder, just watching and thinking. It was cold, the slight wind blowing up bits of snow into little clouds that covered him with icy droplets. Even though he wore jeans and a hoodie, the cold was still uncomfortable, so, with only a slight shift, a semi-circle of rock formed around him to shield him from the chill. Ian's control over the earth was becoming better and better the more time he spent alone practicing, but this day was just a day to appreciate what the world had to offer. It was also a day that allowed him to think, and that always led to his mind wandering to his family. His lost family.
He was standing alone, two weeks after they were meant to meet up. He had gone everywhere in the city, searching for any sign of his siblings or parents, but there was nothing. All his frustration welled up and he let out a growling sound from his throat and an old couple turned to look at his quizzically. He just stared back at them, his blue eyes boring into them steadily until they turned and scurried away.
Ian shook his head and huddled farther into his rock haven. Even after months of being alone, it still hurt to think about what he had lost. The worst part of the entire situation was that he was not sure if they were alive and captured or dead. He also couldn't decide which was worse. He had heard stories about the Vires and what they did to supernaturals, and after seeing his best friend murdered in the name of justice, Ian had never gotten over his distaste for them. In his opinion, humans and supernaturals were the same, one not better than the other. Humans were not weak and supernaturals were not test subjects. A person was not a freak because they had wings or could control something that was not meant to be controlled. No one had the right to make the decision about where others stood in society, and the whole thing really just pissed him off.
He stood by a news stand, reading about the latest Vires conquest. In a city the size of Des Moines, he could blend in easily as normal, but his paranoia was still strong. He was constantly glancing over his shoulder and ducking into dark alleyways, avoiding contact with people as much as he could. He trusted no one, and had decided that it was time to go. It had been over a month of looking for the family that obviously wasn't there. It was time to move on. He had gotten word about where the rebellion was hiding out, and was going to go and join them if his family didn't show up in the next few hours...
This time he jumped off his rock and started walking. He didn't know where he was going exactly, but he was going. He was losing himself among the trees, and as his mind wandered again, he felt the ground about him getting warmer. He thought it was just his imagination, but then he felt something, another life somewhere in the vicinity. Immediately he stopped moving. He listened carefully and slowly crept across the ground. Gently he picked up a stone the size of a man's head and got even closer to this new person. This was rebel land, so either this person was new, neutral, or against him, and either way they didn't need to know exactly how close they were to the bunkers. Quietly, almost silently he stepped into view of what he knew was now a girl, and just stood, waiting for her to make the first move.

Scarlet was panting slightly so she hadn't seen the newcomer as he approached. It was a crack of a twig that had alerted her and she jumped. Now, not the best first impression, him practically standing over her with a huge rock. She screamed and jumped to her feet, holding her hands out in case he threw it, "Whoa! Whoa!" she said, backing away then jumping from the ground, flying to and landing on the largest branch of the tree she had just been sitting on, "What the hell?!" she yelled, surprised and rather annoyed. Who the hell approached someone with a giant rock? A harmless faerie at that? "What were you planning on doing with that?" she snapped, pointing at the rock with irritated eyes.
The agile faerie easily crouched on the tree branch, holding on tightly with one hand, one knee bent on it and one foot supporting her. She narrowed her eyes and leaned away. What was he doing out here in the middle of no where? Just taking a hike? He didn't have wings so he wasn't flying like her, was there anything important further in the forest? Her eyes flashed towards where he had come from, wondering what was further down there. Not that she'd really go check, she didn't want to be around other people, she wanted to just have a little fun.
He didn't seem to but too much of a threat, apart from the deadly rock in his hands. He looked more... concerned and... protective? She wasn't an expert on emotions but he just seemed to be... not entirely threatening? She paused, should she make a run for it? Should she question him further? She opened her mouth to say something but paused, tilting her head slightly and saying slowly, "What are you doing out here? I thought these forests were practically deserted." she asked, her voice confused and slow, as if she was testing the waters of a swimming pool to know if he was friendly or hostile.
Scarlet wasn't the friendliest person in the world, but approaching someone with a rock that big... nah she couldn't see herself doing that unless the other person was threatening her, or in her home. She was just sitting in the forest. Wait, did he live here? Perhaps he was protecting his home? She looked away, towards the forest floor. She couldn't blame him if he was just protecting his home.

It took Ian a moment to register what happened in front of him. One moment, the girl was sitting on the ground next to a tree and the next she was up in it. Instinctively, he kept wary eyes on her, not too surprised that she was supernatural, but enough so that he was immediately on the defense. When she started to yell, more annoyed than anything, he looked down at the rock in his hand. Immediately he dropped it, knowing that he would be able to take on this girl without any trouble if need be. After all, she was a faerie judging by the wings, and they really were no big threat. In fact, she would be a fellow earth lover as he was, so he decided to cut her a little break for being so far out into the woods.
"I'm sorry, miss," he said, his voice clear and strong, "but I could ask you the same question." He usually answered questions with questions so that the conversation was never really about him. "These woods are basically deserted, but I come here every once in a while." He leaned back, seemingly onto thin air, but the moment he should have fallen, a smooth stone crept out of the forest floor and supported him. She had shown that she was supernatural, so he figured that her knowing right off that bat that he was too, and also that he was good at what he did and not to be messed with, wouldn't hurt the situation. If she was a Vire, so be it. She would never find this place every again, and if, on the off chance, she did, they were far enough away from the bunkers that the Rebels would still be safe.
He just stayed there a moment, lounging against the cold stone and staring at her. She was pretty, but she seemed a little stiff, like the girls back in school that didn't quite know how to have fun. Those were always the girls he avoided, but for some reason he wasn't inclined to turn his back on this one. That may have been for the simple fact that he didn't trust her one bit, or for the fact that faeries were also drawn to the earth, but either way, she wasn't just going to walk out of here without him knowing exactly who she was. Pushing up off the rock, Ian walked until he was at the base of the tree looking straight up at her. "You can come down, you know," he said, no mocking or menace in his voice. "I'm not really inclined to climb up there to have a conversation."

Scarlet narrowed her eyes, cautious to make sure that she wasn't in any sort of danger even though the rock had been dropped. She leaned closer to the branch, her torso hovering barely five inches from the sturdy branch and her slightly wind-blown, chocolate brown hair brushing against it lightly. So he was an earth elemental? She couldn't say she was overly surprised, and that would certainly grant permission to be out here all alone. So they both had reasonably valid excuses to be out here, that was good.
She paused when he told her she could come down. From her best guess he seemed to be on guard, but not aggressive. She gave one small, cautious nod and jumped down from the tree, landing easily on her feet. "You admit you wish to have a conversation but yet, you approach me with a weapon." she said, not angry or even annoyed, but cautiously playful. She felt like she could possibly trust a fellow nature supernatural, since they were known for their mellow attitudes and often their optimism towards life.
Scarlet wasn't one to go trusting everyone automatically, but it isn't hard to gain it if you show you can be somewhat trustworthy at the start-though it was hard to gain after even little slip up. "I'm Scarlet, and shockingly enough-I'm a fairy." she said with a light, but still cautious giggle.
