The docks were empty as Annalie walked along, picking over the loose boards and nails that stuck up out of the rotting wood. She took a deep breath in, savoring the sweet smell of the water and the faint sound of the waves as they washed up against the boats. For once, Annalie was alone with her thoughts, something that was becoming increasingly scarce in her life. There always seemed that someone was around right when she needed to be alone the most, and her mood had started to deteriorate with the constant company.
It really wasn't that she disliked people; she didn't want to live her life without anyone to call a friend. There just wasn't anyone who understood her. The only two people she had met so far were an obnoxious ice elemental and a mischievous shifter. She had not taken kindly to the shifter's little surprise, and she just disliked the elemental, so she had reacted harshly. That meant no friends for her in that case, and they were the only two other supernaturals she knew of around here. She knew there were more considering she was in the place where the rebellion supposedly was, but none of them had been introduced to her, so she was alone. It was the lack of those like her and the plethora of those who weren't that made her so irritable.
Letting out a sigh, Annalie flopped down onto the boardwalk and laid on her back. It was twilight now, the shadows that came from the sun setting casting an eerily beautiful overlay on the world. The sky was a light purple with streaks of orange highlighting the clouds. It was early January, so it was cold outside, and Annalie hugged her baggy hoodie closer to her body. There had been a lack of snow this winter, so it was a dry cold, the kind that chapped her skin and made her shiver violently. Luckily, this particular day was a little warmer, so she decided to stay out until it became too cold to bear and the darkness overtook the setting sun.
