I can finally seeThat you're right there beside me☆☆I am not my ownFor I have been made new☆
Heather was a very repetitive person. She was used to similarities in her life, having stayed at home for so many years before she came here as soon as it opened about three years ago. She remembered coming and being completely lost and confused. Many of the students had been, she remembered, most not having been to a boarding school before, but Heather had never even been to school before. Her parents home-schooled her all her life, so it was academically she had problems, but sitting in rooms with thirty other kids listening to one person? Heather still found it strange.
Anyways, when Heather wasn't in class she still needed structure to her life, so that's why she was in the gardens. The sun was dimming but wouldn't set for another hour or so. Heather loved these gardens, and after school everyday she choose somewhere to go and read. The gardens were one of her favorite places to read, even though she sometimes got cold. It was beautiful with a chilly breeze and gorgeous maintained flowers surrounding her. She took a deep breath from her bench beside a beautiful flowerbed of beautiful wildflowers. A fountain depicting the Greek goddess Artemis made a tiny bubbling sound.
Heather didn't believe in the Greek goddesses or gods like a religion, but she had read about Artemis in books and identified her because she was the god of the hunt and animals. Heather parents had never taught her about religion, but instead about the balance and beauty of nature.
Heather had been sitting on this wooden bench alone for over an hour, reading a fictional book about a girl who got lost in the woods and come across a clan of little fairies. She found it strange because it had been written before supernaturals had been discovered. She read quietly, her eyes locked on the book so she did not notice a bit when footsteps could be heard from around the corner.

Ted was new to the whole boarding school thing. It seemed like a pretty lonely existence. For him, the feeling was that he'd been sentenced here by the government and that he was now in a sort of prison for people that were different. Not really much different that the registration camps that the Nazi's had put people in, except ya know a little more human than those camps.
He seemed to find the comfort that he was looking for, not inside the school but outside it. Out in the fresh air where he was used to thinking and being. Unfortunately he didn't know anyone to hang out with yet and his lack o enthusiasm for being here seemed to keep some people from talking to him. All in all he was still trying to get used to the whole not going home everyday to see his parents and brother thing.
Being outside on a day like this sure helped him to clear his head and get just a little bit more used to being in this prison they call a school. Ted was just walking around, basically pacingaround the school outsides, liked he'd been doing for the past half hour. He'd spent most of the time staring at the sky, or at the trees and flowers that were either outside or around the campus.
Ted then walked into a very beautiful area of the grounds. The garden. He hadn't spent much time there yet, but if it was always as nice out as it was today then he would probably spend more time out there than he normally would. Maybe one day he could escape from this place, but right now that wasn't the right thing to do. He needed to stay there and milk the school for all he could before he did anything. Who knows maybe one day he'll actually meet some people around the place that are worth spending his time around.
Just then Ted came across a girl sitting on a garden bench reading a book. From this distance he couldn't tell what the book was about butt he could definitely tell that the girl was fully involved in it and he didn't want to disturb her if he could help it. Ted continued to walk, much slower to make less noise, as he neared her. He could tell that she was roughly the same age as him but there was no telling what she could do or what she was like. For all he knew she might set him on fire because he disturbed her quiet reading time. But he hoped that wouldn't be the case.

I can finally seeThat you're right there beside me☆☆I am not my ownFor I have been made new☆
Heather jumped a little in her seat, her eyes braking away from her book faster than lightening and a tiny mouse-like squeak escaping her lips. She had heard the footsteps at the last moment and it spooked her-not that it was hard to spook Heather. She was as easy to scare as a mouse out of it's hole with a cat on the loose. She didn't know why, it was probably just her shy nature.
She thought she recognized the guy, but couldn't place him. She thought hard, her eyes still wide with shock at being disturbed, though not angry or irritated. Heather was hard to irritate, just nothing seemed to annoy her that much. Again, it was her unique personality that made her like that. Then her mind clicked and she remembered, "Hey, You're Ted right? You're in my transformation class." she said quickly. She doubted he'd recognize her instantly, she was rather quiet in all her classes and sat in the back for most of them. She wasn't exactly... the social type.
She didn't know much about him, again she kept to herself most of the time. She knew he was a shifter like her, and that was pretty much it. She didn't pay attention to gossip, not that she had and friends as sources, and when she was in class her attention was either on the lesson or a book. So when it came to knowing her classmates, well it was first name basis only. She placed her book cover up in her lap, both sides open so she wouldn't loose her page.

Great, he'd disturbed her. Although she didn't seem to have minded the distubance all that much. She spoke to him also and knew his name. He didn't think he'd been in any of his classes enough to actaully have someone remember his name. "Um... Ya I'm Ted." He said turning to her. He definitely didn't expect her to know what class she'd seen him in. But his Transformation class was kind of small and he vaguely remembered this girl sitting in the back of the room.
He usually sat in the middle. Ted found that it helped him blend in and not get noticed that much by the teachers. "You're..." Ted wracked his brain trying to remember he name. He wasn't that great with names anyways and he was pretty sure that she was a shifter also. Finally he remembered it. "You're Heather. Right?" Still not sure he'd gotten the right name but it was worth a shot, whether he was right or not.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to disturb your reading." He noticed that she'd put her book down so that she wouldn't loose her spot. She probably intended to read once he left. Although considering she'd stopped readig to acknowledge him was something significant. "So, you must like it out here too, huh? Pretty peacful right?" He wasn't exactly sure what to say, not because she was a girl, although that was part of it, but mainly because he didn't know her at all. She never talked in class and he'd hardly seen her outside of classes after all. Ted roced back and forth on his heels a little nervously, unsure what to say next.

Heather nodded, when he commented how peaceful the gardens were. It was beautiful, yes, and peaceful, yes, but Heather preferred to call it... homely. She grew up around gardens like these and the smells, the vibe around her seemed to be the only place that made her feel at home. "Yes, they're... amazing. she said, her voice a little dreamy with thought and her body returning to a calm state. She found that few others appreciated the gardens being her like she did, and she had accepted that.
"We're quite lucky to have such gorgeous gardens at our fingertips." she added, her gaze looking to the small fountain by her. The water bubbled casually and made her smile warmly at it. Usually she was skittish around others but the garden made her feel more confident, more at home, more in control. Perhaps it was the calmness that soothed her mouse-like interactions or perhaps it was the wholesomeness of the air that reminded her of home.
"But I haven't seen you around here much, in the gardens I mean." she commented, "And I'm here enough to recognize the regular visitors" she added with a hint of a giggle. What she said was funny because it was true, she was here every week at least, usually at least thrice a week-even in the winter as long as it wasn't too snowy. Whenever she tried spending more time in her room or more time in the library, she got homesick. There was only so much reading could do to take you away from reality, sometimes reality had a hand in whipping you away to a far off magical kingdom or time or in this books case, a forest.
"Are you one of those jock types that spends more time on the sports field or are you just new here?" she asked, usually people needed some sort of time away from the indoors and out in the fresh air. Usually it was here or on the sports field. Heather herself rarely strayed far from the library or gardens. The furthest the greenhouses. The ruffians hung around there and Heather had no intention of getting caught by the wrong people. Plus it was loud. Heather found herself wondering why she cared. Of coarse she cared, she cared about everyone, but perhaps her book was just getting boring. Usually she'd avoid strangers, but he seemed a little lonely-and maybe, just maybe Heather felt the need for a little company as well.

Well, she wasn't upset. That was certainly a good thing. He'd hate to have pissed off the first person that he'd actually gotten a chance to talk to since he'd come here. She sure seemed nice enough for him to hold a conversation with. He wasn't the kind to normally admire a garden unless it was for a real specific reason. But today it just seemed like the right place for him to be.
It sure was nice and quiet here, so Ted could definitely see the allure in coming here to read or think if you wanted to get away from lots of people. "This is the first time I've stopped by here. I haven't seen to much of the place so I'm just kind of using my free time to learn a little bit more about the place. It only seems practical since it looks like I'm going to be here for a while." Ted said in reply to her.
"No, I'm not really a jock, unless you count water sports. I'm actually new here and I'm trying to get the lay of the land so that I don't get to lost." He smiled. Ted hadn't smiled since he'd been here. It was great to ahve someone finally talking to him that wasn't soemone that worked here. "How long have you been here? You seem pretty happy with this place." Don't get him wrong Ted was still a little put off by this place and the fact that she simply seemed to like it here so much only made him wonder exactly what was going on at this school that he'd just gotten himself into.
Maybe it was just her. But he was still glad to have someone to talk to. Heather didn't even seem to be interested in thhe book anymore. Ted spotted a little lady bug resting on one of the nearest leaves and he smiled again. Even here there were still simple things that he enjoyed around. "Were both shifters here, so can you tell me what you favorite animal to change into?" He didn't really know what else to say. He was just trying to find out more about her since he felt like they would be spending a lot of time together in the future.

I can finally seeThat you're right there beside me☆☆I am not my ownFor I have been made new☆
Heather nodded, remembering when she was new. She was one of the first students to be sent here-she was even here when the rebellion attacked and she had to be sent home for a while. She hadn't really understood exactly why anyone would want to attack a school like that, and had not really inquired much more. Besides that point the school's grounds were large, but easy enough to map out after a month or so.
So he liked water sports? Heather herself wasn't sporty, she'd rather be off reading or something, the very least be in the stands. She watched a few games here at the school but didn't really understand them. She remembered trying out canoeing on the pond once or twice, but it ended before it started. Perhaps she spent too much time in cat forms and she had adapted their distaste for water. She liked the beach, it was soothing, but in the water?
Heather smiled when he smiled, she didn't get to talk to people often and she was glad he wasn't put off from her innocent nature. Most people abandoned her before she could even open her mouth. "I've been here for years, so I know the sights. I can't say I know all the people though so I can't really introduce you to anybody." she said, "I can put names to faces but other than that..." she gave a small shrug.
"I guess you could say I like it here, it's resourceful and welcoming to the supernatural." she said, it was a decent school-not that she had others to compare it to. She liked most of her teachers and the surrounding places were gorgeous, not to mention the town was the cutest little place ever.
Heather was pretty much oblivious to the war outside the school walls. She understood that the humans were so far in control of the other species, She knew of the Rebellion who seemed to dislike this fact and Heather couldn't understand why. The humans had given them a school and services as well as protection from violent species and education. Sure they asked for them to be registered in return but look what it got them, supernaturals could walk the streets and use their powers without fear of humans discovering them. No, Heather didn't understand, probably because of her inexperience with being treated like any other human on a full basis. She thought the weird looks from humans and the mistreatment was normal, or at least that was what was normal to her.

He couldn't really argue with her logic because so far he hadn't seen anything to dispute it. The only problem he had with the place was that he had to be registered. "I guess the only thing I don't like is the registration. It feels a little to BIg Brotherly for me. I prefer to just be left to do my own thing ya know?" Ted said to her. It seemed like she felt differently about it than he did but that was life. You always met new people that see things differently than you do. People are raised differently than others.
He wasn't really interested in learning everyone's names but it could still be interesting to people watch; especially if it was outdoors. There wasn't much to go on people wise because the only time he saw them was in their classes. Most of the other times people were in their cliques. He didn't want to mess with that.
"It's nice here... I guess. I have the urge to stay in animal form now more than before but I think that's because I don't know anyone. It seems a little bit like most people stick with their own groups. Like you don't see many fire manipulators hanging with ice manipulators. That sort of thing."Ted wasn't sure that he needed to be telling her that. If she'd been here as long as she says than she probably knew what he was talking about and he didn't have to explain it to her.
Sure the place was safe but it seemed a little to safe. That gave him an idea. "Hey, you want to give me a tour of the place in one of our animal shapes. Assuming we can communicate like that."He didn't know if it would work because he hadn't really tried it with another shifter. Yes his mother was one but they never shifted together. She usually stayed human while she was giving the lessons. It would be fun to do; especially if it worked.

Heather couldn't help but agree with him about the registration. She remembered when she had to go get her tattoo, she was terrified. She had never really gotten too many needles in her lifetime-and a tattoo just freaked her out. She remembered having half a heart attack everyday she had to look at it, that time had had so much change for her, but a permanent mark on her arm?... It was almost humorous, that she could change her body into any animal available-but idea of a number on her arm was nearly traumatizing. But she got used to it, like everyone, and after time she realized it wasn't that big of a deal. "Well, I don't really like that. The nice thing is though that you only have to register once." she commented.
Heather had noticed the cliques. They didn't bother her, she talked to a couple people-but other than that not so much. She was okay alone, or at least she told herself and others that. She felt content enough staying out of the drama and teenage life, but sometimes she wished she could just... "Yeah, but I think that's mostly because of species. There are lots of different people here, I'm sure after a few weeks you'll find a couple friends of all different species." she assured him. He seemed nice and open enough to get some good friends.
He asked if she'd give him a tour in animal form and she felt a smile tickle her lips. She didn't talk to any of the other shifters, so it would be fun to be able to shift in pairs like she did with her mother back at home. She glanced at her book and bookmarked it with the side flap. She put it on the book beside her on the bench, "Of coarse it works. Me and my mother used to do it all the time back home." she said, her voice with a little laugh, "I'd be happy to show you around.".
Heather stood from the bench, brushing off her dress and rubbing her arms to warm herself up quickly. It was as quick as a flash that the tall figure of Heather shrunk to a small, lithe silver cat with jet black tabby stripes and glowing blue eyes that matched hers perfectly. Her fur was short but soft, almost still kitten-like. Her paws were dainty and her ears short. Her tail was fluffy and long like a large feather. She flicked her tail and darted under a bush, signalling him to shift and follow.

Ted was glad that he wasn't the only one that had noticed the cliques. He certainly hoped that he would be able to make friends with people from other species. Because of their close environment at the school they would pretty much have no choice but to get to know a lot of people. It wasn't like they could simply avoid someone they didn't like on the street. This was a boarding school you just couldn't get away from people that easily.
Even registering once seemed a little over kill to him. He was hoping for the whole never registering thing though. On a lighter subject he already knew how to get along with earth manipulators because his dad was one but he wasn't sure how easy it would be for the rest of the groups that were around. Though Ted was fairly confident that he would find some to talk to that were pretty nice.
The teen was glad that she had agreed to show him around in animal form. He really did prefer it to his human form sometimes. Heather was faster than him in changing though. Maybe it was because she'd been here longer and they really were good at teaching people to hone their skills or maybe it was just because he was slower than he thought he was at changing. She turned into a little silver tabby cat and flicked her tail at him. "This is gonnae fun." Ted said before he started changing.
He thought about going with his favorite and most comfortable form, Sandy, his chow dog, but considering the size of the cat compared to the size of a chow it might be hard for him to get to some places if he was that big. So he decided to go smaller. There were a lot of racoons that would dump over trash cans back around his parents house and he could use that.
It took longer than hers to change into but that was probably because he wasn't used to the form and didn't use it that much. After only a few seconds the once tall Ted was shrunk down to the size and color of a racoon. He was complete racoon, from his little banded beady brown eyes, all the way to his bushy banded grey and black tail. Ted quickly trotted up next to her to let her know that he was ready to go. With a silly racoon smile on his face he was ready for the tour.

Heather looked him over after he changed. He was a pretty good shifter, considering he didn't seem all that comfortable in his new form. She gave a little chuckle, feeling more comfortable now she was an animal. Perhaps it was the venerability or just the fact that they had something so in common. Humans seemed to take for granted the fact that almost everyone around them was their same species, but she only knew a few shifters, one being her own mother.
The small cat gave a quick and brusque purr, a cat's sign of contentedness. She squeezed into a bush, her long tail disappearing into the darkness. She turned to face him, her blue eyes flashing with the feline coating that reflected light like a mirror. "This is the fastest way." she said, her voice a meow with a hint of an amused purr. Though she spoke in cat tongue and no human could understand her, she knew that he would understand her.
She pushed through the little branches of the bush and crawled under the black iron fence that surrounded the garden. She shook her fur, letting some leaves that caught onto her fur fall off. She sat down, admiring the scene that stood in front of them.
The ground sloped rather steeply towards the small pond that reflected the sun that was beginning to set. Wispy clouds were dappled in pink, orange and red and a breeze tickled the ends of her whiskers. It smelled of flowers and the pine trees that dotted the hillside around them. She felt a little purr rumble in her throat once more, feeling at peace. It was spectacular view and it always took her breath away.
They stood in silence for a while, her blue eyes watching the scene happily before she spoke, "Down there is the pond. It is a nice place in the summer or spring if you don't mind the bugs. Over to the right you can see the school and the courtyard, you know where that is of coarse. And behind there is the Training building, and down by the pond over there is the greenhouse." she flicked her tail to each place she named. "And beside the training building is the path towards the sports field. You can't really see it from here." She looked over the places with pride to be able to call this place home for all this time. She didn't realize how much she enjoyed it here.

Ted flicked his tail and follow the cat. It was really a good thing that he didn't change into anything bigger otherwise he wouldn't have fit through the bushes.
The first thing he noticed when they came out of bushes with that the sky had gotten darker. It was getting darker outside Ted could still see perfectly fine with the raccoons vision. Ted followed Heather through the black gate and chuckled as she fixed her fur from the ruffled leaves that fell.
Being a raccoon, and a guy, he didn't really mind his Ferbane all disheveled. He did shake his fur just a little to get the leaves out of it; however, the only thing he did to his fur was fix the little areas around his ears that seemed to be sticking out.
When he was done fixing his fur he payed attention to what Heather was saying. He seemed to know where everything was and he didn't doubt that she had been here a while.
"What's in the training building?" Ted asked. He hadn't been there before and he didn't even know what they did there. Although, if he was going to be here long enough he would eventually learn what they did there. He was sure of that.
Talking in an animal voice sounded a little funny to him. It felt normal enough like he was just making animal noises but it was still an interesting experience. He'd never tried it before. It was a pretty good thing that this was a supernatural school or it might look weird seeing a cat and a raccoon talking to each other.

I can finally seeThat you're right there beside me☆☆I am not my ownFor I have been made new☆
Heather looked at the training building. It was large and ugly looking to her. Not like the beautiful vista that was around the school. It was put in after and in her opinion the government sorta cheaped out. She gave a little shrug, so what if it was a bit of an eyesore, it did it's job and didn't collapse on them... yet. "The training building is sort of a safe house for people who want to practice their powers. Power classes take place there and stuff. It's kind of boring to me, but you'll spend plenty of time there, I'm sure." she explained. She didn't spend much time aside from classes in there, it was big and boring.
She turned to the pond, most people called it a lake but it was technically a pond. It was pretty, and rather large. She loved how it was so clean, it was obviously cleaned with magic. The water looked almost crystal clear. "We don't really need it to practice our powers though. I mean, we didn't have to go there to change did we?" she said with a bit of a smile.
She looked over Ted in his raccoon form. He sure looked different, but a little awkward, as if he wasn't as a whole used to his body or voice. He seemed content enough in his form. She gave a little laugh-like purr and gave him a little push with her paw, "Betcha can't catch me!" she launched herself down the hill, avoiding a couple trees. She felt lively and playful, her eyes bright as she jumped up onto a tree, using her claws to hold herself on.
She wondered if he'd be able to keep up. He said he liked water sports, so he must be fit. She was pretty good at running, her mother taught her how to be quick and agile on four legs, and look pretty graceful when doing it. Plus, it was great practice to play tag, it helped with learning how to use and maneuver in different body shapes.

"I guess that's true. But I bet it'd be fun to at least watch the others practice." Ted said. He'd necer really seen a lot of different powers being used in one place. He'd only seen a couple of people use their powers. Teds father had shown him how his powers worked but as for others powers, he'd never seen all the different kinds that were out there.
That only raised the question of how many differnt types of powers were out there, how many were at the school, and how many had yet to be discovered. "That's true. We can chage anywhere. But I'm guessing we still have to go no matter what." He wasn't exactly psyched about the idea of being forced into classes but he was sure that they were necessary for him to get better at all the different animals that were possible. It might be fun to throw down with a couple of other shifters or other powers everyonce in a while. Ted thought.
He was quickly pulled back with a playful shove from Heather. She dashed off and he was left in her dust, almost literally. Ted ran off after her and started to keep up with her. She was fast in her cat form but he was pretty fast in his racoon form. If Ted had to guess they both probably had the same speed. She was up a tree before he was even at the base of it. He had some work to do. Practice would definitely be key in him getting a lot better and more familiar with his forms.
She wasn't the only one that could climb trees. In fact racoons were better at climbing trees than cats. Ted was up the tree relatively quickly for someone wasn't to familiar with the form. "Tag your it." Ted said playfully shoving her back. "Oh and I'm not calling the Fire department to get the cat out of the tree." Ted gave her as much of a smile as any racoon can give.

Heather had to note his ability to move in the new body. She laughed and watched him race up the tree after her, tagging her back swiftly. He was quick and fast climbing, but raccoons were good at that, weren't they?
She was pressed to the branch tightly, a little scared of falling. Cats were fragile and even if they did always land on their paws, a fall that high could still to damage to her little body. Her whiskers quivered ever so slightly as she looked down, thinking how she was going to get down. Then a lovely idea appeared in her mind! She tensed her musceles, her hesitant look turning to one of excitement.
He commented that he wasn't calling the fire department and she gave a giggle, ending in a loud purr, "You don't need to!" she laughed, pushing with all her might away and mid-jump shifting into a bright blue bird, flying off with a loud chirp and circling back to fly back for him, since she was now 'it'. "Now I'll get you!" she said playfully, carefully extending her legs so she could tap him when she got close enough.
Now, Heather wasn't exactly the best of fliers. She had learned the basics of flight from her mother, when her bird forms were well enough developed she could safely fly. She was still a bit iffy on complicated maneuvers like this one but she kept steady enough. Her feathers were a bright blue and her eyes were still the same bright, sparkling aqua colour. She had turned into a beautiful blue jay.
She found that her wings ached a little, her body getting tired of running and shifting quickly. She kept her breaths deep and long, filling her tiny lungs with juicy air. It was odd going from sharp senses to dull taste and smell, hundreds of smells previously available she couldn't detect anymore, and that was just weird.
She angled her wings and feathers so she'd go lower, feeling the wind through her wings made her feel light and free, and it drove her to chance after him faster. It was an amazing feeling, flight. It was like she could do anything, it made her feel invincible and the feeling never seemed to go away. Perhaps all that time on land made this such a lucky experience for her.
